Assignment 2

Due: Wednesday, September 16

For each problem on homework 1, do the following

  1. Create a spreadsheet model of the problem, find an optimal solution using Excel Solver, and hand in the standard printouts. You must follow all directions for the standard printouts, or points will be deducted.  The directions may be found on pages 11-12 of the coursepack, or in expanded, updated form at http://eckstein.rutgers.edu/om/general-handouts/printout.html.
     
  2. Use the graphical method explained in class on September 9 to solve the problem manually via graphs and algebra.  Show all your work.

Solutions to homework 1 will be posted by Friday, September 11.  You may wish to refer to them to make sure you are solving the correct problem formulations for this assignment.
 

Q1. (30 points)  Problem 1 from homework 1.
 

Q2. (30 points)  Problem 2 from homework 1.
 

Q3. (40 points)  Problem 3 from homework 1.  Be careful:  the feasible region for this problem will look very different from the other two problems, and you are minimizing instead of maximizing.
